Nutritional supplements
FAQ
Can vitamin C protect against a cold?
Unfortunately, no. However, taking a high-dose vitamin C supplement can shorten the duration of a cold by half a day to a whole day.
I have very brittle, weak nails. Can a nutritional supplement help with this?
It depends on whether the weakness of your nails is genetic or not. If you have been suffering from brittle nails for a long time and repeatedly, as well as your parents and siblings also have the same problem, then unfortunately even nutrient preparations often cannot help. Vitamin H (biotin) is commonly known to strengthen nails. Since it is only found in small amounts in food, biotin can be taken in capsule form if needed. A deficiency of vitamin A and C can also lead to splintery, dry nails. Using a combination of these vitamins often helps to strengthen the hair, skin and nails.
If I take various supplements, do I still need to eat lots of vegetables and fruits?
Yes, you should. The body needs about 40 different nutrients to stay healthy. Three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit per day are recommended. Healthy foods provide minerals and dietary fiber, whereas nutritional supplements do not. A wholesome diet also has a positive effect on the immune system.
